Why is content important?
Content is very important to get good positioning on the search engines. Make sure your content matches your key words in your meta tags.
Writing good content is not a skill many novice and professional Webmasters have, especially when it comes to setting up a Web site.
One of the many aspects of setting up a good Web site is good content. I say this because search engines like Google; use a Web crawler called a spider which gathers key words to determine your content.
These spiders are capable of collecting your content on all your Web pages; and keep that information in their massive silicon brains.
When the spider visits another Web site that links back to you and finds matching content… pretty much… you get points.
If the spider visits another Web site and the content does not match, you don't get points and for the most part nothing happens, except…
If you are linked to and or from too many Web sites that match your content, you are at risk of being banned from the search engines; because that is considered link farming and is a BIG no no.
Also when considering content for your Web site, you must understand that a spider can only read text. So right now HTML is the best coding technique; there will be some Webmasters that disagree because there are other code sources that can be used.
One of the popular ways to code a Web site is with Flash, which has a very BIG wow factor; but Flash pages do not display content. When you combine Flash with HTML you can get the wow factor with content.
CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is another code source but for the novice it is not really an option. CSS allows for dynamic updates to your site with one simple txt file. This is a great way to code sites that have many pages. If you plan to have a Web site with only a few pages HTML in my opinion is the way to go.
No matter what coding source you use, having too many graphics or Flash files will hinder the ranking of your site since a search engine cannot read those type of files as content.
I hope this helps explain what content is. I will add more information as I get it. Keep checking back to this page and look for updates. Also, you might be doing your friends a favor by letting them know about this Web site.
